From a Prideful Kid…

Posted on by Vince Sarfraz

The following story was written for Youth For Christ USA. These are real YFC Stories showing how God is using YFC as a vehicle in raising up life-long followers of Jesus all across the nation.

I met Jay at the detention facility I work with. His background was one of hardship, pain, and poor choices.

We built a friendship and when Jay transferred to another treatment program, he asked if we could continue to meet. I received permission from his parole officer to connect with Jay weekly and I have delighted in his transformation. From a selfish, arrogant, prideful boy to a mature, thoughtful, and encouraging young man, I’ve been blessed to witness purpose and perspective take hold of this young person’s heart. The Holy Spirit has helped him embrace a new understanding of his calling and purpose in life causing his everyday life choices to change for the better.

God is good, constantly transforming the broken for His glory.

During the last six months, Jay lost his grandfather; his parents got a divorce; he was assaulted in prison; and he was falsely accused of an action he did not commit. Jay has struggled through it all, but he has come through it all, looking and sounding more like Jesus.

My last visit with Jay was emotional. He told me he doesn’t know where he’d be if it weren't for Christ working through me in his life. God is good, constantly transforming the broken for His glory.
