Every Day

The following story was written by a member of the Youth For Christ USA Cities Pursuit Community. These are real stories and pieces showing how God is using YFC USA as a vehicle in raising up life-long followers of Jesus all across the nation.

Small, consistent acts are the building blocks for bigger things: Getting up with the alarm clock, spending time in scripture and prayer every day, being on time, paying bills on time! A firm handshake, looking people in the eye, and greeting people when they enter a room.

These consistencies can even break down big barriers. In other words, the term “unlovable” is a lie. Let me tell you why…

“Don’t pray for me, I don’t believe in your God,” is what Brittney* said last summer. Angry, even hostile toward God, she agreed to begin a mentoring relationship with a YFC Leader. What Brittney didn’t know yet was that this was going to be a 3Story mentoring relationship!

Here’s how this 3Story relationship has developed with simple consistency over time:

God’s Story: Brittney’s mentor, Vanessa,* loves Jesus and seeks after Him with consistency. Because she is filled with the love of Christ, she is filled with love for Brittney. Because she knows there’s no sin that can separate her from the love of Christ, there’s no sin or rejection that can separate Brittney from Vanessa’s love.

Their Story: Vanessa listens to Brittney and welcomes her. Even though she didn’t want to talk about why she was so angry about God and church, Vanessa engaged her with love and encouragement.

My Story: Vanessa has shared parts of her story with Brittney, but one thing that’s really consistent is Vanessa’s commitment to pray before they eat.

“She’s opening up about God as well. While we were out eating one day, I blessed my food and when I looked up from blessing it, I saw her with her head bowed and ever since then, we won’t eat without doing that. It is truly a blessing to interact with her, she makes my day”

Every time a hurting young person turns their face even a little towards Jesus it is a big victory!

When we open our arms to Jesus, His love flows through us and into the lives of others. Deep, relentless, enduring love that tears down walls and softens hearts.

That kind of love is our purpose and our calling.
